BUNK’ART 1 is one of Tirana’s most unique and impressive destinations, transforming a massive military bunker into a museum dedicated to Albania’s history during the communist period. Located at the entrance of Tirana near Mount Dajti, the bunker was secretly built in the 1970s for use by the country’s top leadership in case of war or a nuclear attack. It consists of more than 100 rooms and a large underground conference hall.
Today, BUNK’ART 1 has been transformed into a modern museum that blends history with art and memory. Its exhibits recount military life, the defense system, as well as the political and social aspects of Albania under Enver Hoxha’s isolated regime. Through original documents, photographs, military equipment, audio recordings, and artistic installations, visitors experience what life was like inside a real Cold War bunker.
BUNK’ART 1 is more than a museum—it is an emotional and historical journey that helps visitors understand an important and challenging period of Albanian history. Today, it is one of Tirana’s most visited attractions, offering a unique combination of history, reflection, and contemporary art.
