The Iljaz Mirahori Mosque, built in the late 15th century (around 1494), is the oldest monument and one of the most important historical landmarks in Korçë. It was commissioned by Iljaz Bey Mirahori, a prominent figure of the Ottoman Empire and the founder of the city of Korçë. The mosque is an outstanding example of early Ottoman architecture in Albania, featuring a simple yet harmonious layout, adorned with a central dome and an elegant minaret.

Its interior was once adorned with frescoes and artistic elements typical of the period, giving the space a unique spiritual atmosphere. Beyond its religious significance, the mosque also held an important social and cultural role, serving as a central hub of urban life in Korçë during the early centuries of the city’s development.

During various historical periods, including the communist regime, the mosque suffered damage and was repurposed for other uses. However, after the 1990s, it was restored and regained its religious function. Today, the Iljaz Mirahori Mosque stands not only as a sacred place of worship for Muslim believers but also as a cultural and tourist landmark, reflecting the origins and historical heritage of the city of Korçë.
