The King’s Mosque (or the Mosque of Bayezid II) is one of the most important historical and religious monuments in the city of Berat. It was built at the end of the 15th century during the reign of Sultan Bayezid II and is considered one of the oldest existing mosques in Albania.
The mosque is distinguished by its traditional Ottoman architecture, featuring a large central dome, tall and slender minarets, and an elegant portico with arches at the front. Inside, the walls are adorned with decorative frescoes, floral and geometric motifs, reflecting the artistic craftsmanship of the period.
In the mosque's courtyard, there is a colonnaded veranda and a fountain that served for ablutions before prayers. Thanks to its location in the center of the old town, near the Mangalem neighborhood, the King’s Mosque has always been a central hub of religious and community life for the people of Berat.
Today, it is not only an active place of worship but also a cultural and tourist attraction, showcasing the religious coexistence and Ottoman architectural heritage of Berat.
