The House of Leaves is one of Tirana’s most interesting and significant museums, reflecting a dark but important part of Albania’s history. Located near “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard, the building once served as a surveillance and eavesdropping center during the communist regime. It earned the name “House of Leaves” from its façade covered with foliage, which made it barely noticeable from the outside and gave it the appearance of an ordinary building.
The museum opened to the public in 2017 and today preserves documents, original surveillance equipment, photographs, and archival materials that reveal how the control and espionage system operated in Albania at the time. Visitors can experience a unique journey through recreated rooms, audio recordings, and interactive exhibits that convey the feeling of life under constant observation.
The House of Leaves is more than a museum—it is a reminder of a period of isolation and lack of freedom, as well as a reflection on the importance of human rights and transparency in society. It remains one of the most visited cultural sites in Tirana, evoking strong emotions and encouraging reflection in every visitor.
